About Department

The Department of English Established in 1967 one of the largest and diverse departments. The faculty is committed to the use of innovative and learner oriented methods of teaching and agile learning. The department also regularly invites scholars and writers for talks and lectures to enable students to develop analytical, critical, conceptual and communicative skills. Various co curricular activities are organized to enable students to be competent in the global community. English is taught as one of the basic languages for all the students at UG level. Literature, Indian Writing in English and English Translation of Indian Literary Works is taught to optional English students. The library has 4719 books,03 journals and 20 CD’s on English literature, language and grammar. Well-equipped Language Lab with multimedia audio visual systems and computers. Departmental day is organized to felicitate the prize winners of different competitions and to bid farewell to the final year optional English students. Optional English students are encouraged to participate in inter collegiate literary fests and also to present papers in various state and national level seminars and conferences. Under NEP2020 English is also introduced as an OEC subject for B.A and B.COM students. The department aims to train students to face the challenges of the globalized world.

Career Opportunities

The Department provides informal career guidance and placement services to the students. The requests by Principals of the Colleges and other agencies are notified to the students and are encouraged to apply. Teachers counsel the students appearing for competitive examinations. Need based training programmes in Research Methodology, NET Coaching and Computer and Quantitative techniques are also conducted to increase the employability of the Students.
